Raymond Briggs’ festive favourite The Snowman whisks generations of children off to a winter wonderland for a festive experience year on year. From 7-10 November now the Birmingham Repertory Theatre’s magical live show visits the Opera House Manchester

The enchanting stage adaptation created from the much-loved movie and book features exquisite dancing, magic and live music, including the memorable classic Walking in the Air.
The family favourite follows the tale of a young boy’s adventures when his snowman on Christmas Eve comes to life. Starring a dazzling array of colourful characters including dancing penguins, a stunning snow princess, with her wicked beau Jack Frost and of course, Father Christmas, The Snowman is the perfect Christmas treat for the family and an excellent introduction to dance for the very young.
Inspired by the movie, directed by Dianne Jackson and produced by John Coates, The Snowman has become a firm favourite Christmas activity, “guaranteed to melt the heart of even the most cynical Scrooge” (The Guardian). Choreography by Robert North, direction by Bill Alexander, design by Ruari Murchison, lighting by Tim Mitchell and music classics and lyrics by Howard Blake, a performance that has been viewed by millions.
The Snowman is visiting the Opera House as part of the UK and international Tour.

The Snowman was originally created and illustrated by Raymond Briggs as a picture book, narrated through hand-drawn illustrations and was first published in 1978. The Snowman is now one of the world’s most popular picture books, The Snowman has sold more than 5.5 million copies globally and has been translated into 21 languages. Adapted for the screen by producer John Coates, the Oscar-nominated animation launched on Channel 4 in its inaugural year in 1982 and has been repeated every Christmas since.
The sequel, The Snowman and The Snowdog premiered on Channel 4 on Christmas Eve 2012 and was seen by over 10 million people over the festive period.
